What to Expect in Your Appointment

Each appointment is individualized to your needs and is one-on-one with your registered physiotherapist either virtually or in-person in a private treatment room.

Your physiotherapist will review your intake form before your initial session so that your assessment is focused on your goals.

If you’re a new client or returning client who hasn't been seen in over 6 months, your first appointment can be a virtual or in person assessment.
One of the many benefits of having your physiotherapy assessment virtually is that we can discuss all of your symptoms and concerns prior to coming into the clinic, from the comfort of your own home or work place.
For virtual assessments or follow up appointments, we use a private, secure online platform specially created for health professionals. All you need is a device with a webcam and access to the internet.
Whether you choose a virtual or in person initial assessment, this appointment can include:

-
Discussing your specific pelvic floor, core or orthopaedic symptoms/concerns
-
Medical and pelvic health history
-
Birth history and/or birth preferences if you're pregnant or postpartum
-
Pelvic floor and core education
-
Evaluate your posture and movements patterns
-
Option for an internal pelvic floor exam (for in person assessments or follow up appointments)
-
Prescribe, observe and progress exercises specific to your goals
-
Provide labour and birth prep including pelvic floor considerations
-
Provide postpartum recovery guidance back to your goals including exercise, return to running, strength training, yoga and Pilates
-
Put together a personalized plan for your goals

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to pelvic health physiotherapy.
Each client’s goals and symptoms will guide the number and frequency of sessions recommended.

Booking a few follow-up appointments in advance is encouraged due to the full schedule (details are available on the booking page).
During your assessment, your physiotherapist will discuss a personalized treatment plan with you, and appointments can always be adjusted based on your goals and symptoms.

Below are treatments your follow up appointments may include:

-
Pelvic floor treatment may include internal or external techniques to help you understand how to best connect with these muscles; however, an internal exam is never required.
Your assessment and treatment plan are always guided by your comfort, goals, and consent. Whether we use internal or external approaches, the focus is on improving awareness, coordination, and strength of your pelvic floor and core as part of your whole-body function. -
Individualized exercise program designed around your goals, integrating pelvic floor and core strategies into strength training, yoga, Pilates-based movement, or your favourite types of exercise.
-
Manual therapy and myofascial release to address muscles, fascia, and joints throughout the body to improve mobility, balance, and comfort.
-
Acupuncture to support tissue healing, decrease pain, and promote relaxation.
-
Guidance and ongoing support to help you feel confident moving in daily life and in the activities/sports you love.

Your physiotherapist uses Embodia, an online platform designed for sending your home exercises via a free app. This makes it easier to remember the exercises and strategies discussed in your sessions and helps you achieve your physiotherapy goals faster.
